3 Ways To Instantly Lower Anxiety

3 Ways To Instantly Lower Anxiety

The number one word I have been hearing lately is “anxiety”. With the coronavirus, comes a lot of uncertainty, a lot of loss, a lot of fear, and a lot of anxiety.

So we’re going to talk about 3 techniques that you can use to lower your anxiety instantly to help you feel better.

Number 1.  Change your state.

Tony Robbins is huge on changing your state and for a good reason, it works.  It’s a super simple NLP technique.  The way to do this is to think of a state or feeling you would rather be feeling other than the anxiety.  This could be calm, happy, energized, relaxed… whatever.

Let’s say you chose happy.  Then think of a time in your past where you felt super happy.  It could be yesterday, last week, last year… doesn’t matter. Then I want you to picture that younger version of yourself in front of you, being happy.

When you have a clear image of that person, step into their shoes.  Literally walk forward and imagine that you are actually stepping into their shoes and then I want you to match your body to theirs, pay attention to how the world looks different through these happy eyes, pay attention to any sounds and how they’re different.  How do you talk to yourself when you’re happy?  And then I want you to pay attention to the feelings.  Feel all those happy feelings inside your body.  Notice how it’s different.  Pay attention to where in your body you feel it the most.

Spend as much time in this position as you need to and when you feel a shift in your body and state of mind, you’re done.  That’s all you need to do!

Number 2.  Follow the 3-3-3 Rule.

Look around you and name three things you see. Then, name three sounds you hear. Finally, move three parts of your body — your ankle, your head, or arm. Whenever you feel your brain going 100 miles per hour, this mental trick can help center your mind, bringing you back to the present moment.

Number 3.  Stand up straight.

When we’re anxious, we usually slouch which protects our heart, our lungs, and sometimes our throats.  The simple action of standing up straight will signal your body that it’s back in control.  So, stand tall, make sure your spine is straight, shoulders are back, feet are wide and strong and feel the power that comes from this simple move.

Applying these 3 easy techniques whenever you feel anxious will help you feel so much better!
