The holiday season is in full swing and I’ve been hearing a lot of complaining on how expensive it is. And what happens is, the more we stress about money the more it affects us all around. And that’s not good! We want to have fun and enjoy it! After all it is the most magical time of the year ???? So here are a couple of tips you can use to help you save money during the holiday season and have more fun.
Tip number 1 Make a budget and stick to it for gift giving. I know, I know, the word budget sucks. But by having a concrete number written down, it will make a world of a difference. Then make a list of everyone on your gift giving list and divide that number appropriately amongst everyone on your list. This will help you avoid walking aimlessly in to the mall and buying random expensive gifts… and then looking at your credit card statement next month and having a heart attack.
Tip number 2 Get creative! Many people on your list would be more than happy to get a really heart-felt written note or card and maybe with a hand-made gift that comes from the heart. Or another idea is to give the gift of time. I’m sure you have some kids on your list that already have a toy room full of toys that they don’t use. So instead of adding to that pile, give the gift of taking them out skating for a few hours or taking them out for an afternoon of fun. Something that will create memories. That will mean more to them than you know.
Tip number 3 Take advantage of free holiday events. There are a lot of free holiday events in every community if you look for them. So take a look and take advantage to get in the holiday spirit. Go to the parade or hop in the car and take a drive to look at all the Christmas lights around or make Christmas ornaments from scratch with the kids. There is a ton of free stuff you can find to do that will add a ton of fun to the holidays, and won’t hurt your wallet.
Tip number 4 Give the gift of giving back. Go through your place and find all the unused toys or house hold appliances or clothes you don’t use anymore and donate them to a local charity or gift drive. You could put a smile on a lot of people’s faces, and your own. Because there’s nothing like the feeling of giving
Tip number 5 If you’re having a holiday party make it a pot luck. There’s nothing wrong with asking everyone to bring a little something. Most people are in the same boat as you are and when everyone pitches in a little it makes it a lot cheaper for you and everyone still gets to have a really good time.
