How To Overcome Fear

Fear is the number one reason why we don’t do what we want in life . It holds us back, paralyses us and keeps us stuck in the place we usually don’t want to be in. It holds us back.

So let’s go over 5 ways you can start kicking that fear in the ass and stop letting it hold you back.

 Chunk the fear down.

Let’s say for example you want to train to run a marathon. When you first think of running the marathon you probably get scared. But if you chunk it down in to small steps it won’t be as terrifying.

Maybe the first thing you have to do is go buy new running show. That’s not that scary. Next, maybe you have to join a running group so you have to spend an hour researching them on-line… not scary. Next, maybe you start your training, but the first run is short so it’s not nearly as scary as you have it in your head…and then you build it up. Do you see where I’m going with this? Small steps equals simple. One big-massive-gigantic step of running the whole marathon today? Terrifying. So chunk it down.

Figure it out what you’re actually afraid of.

If you ask yourself what it is your afraid of usually you won’t be able to spit it out right off the bat. You’ll have to think about it. Ask yourself what’s really there? And then ask yourself why you have that fear. Once you can label it, you give it an identity and you’ll usually find that it’s not nearly as big of deal as you thought and was mostly in your head.

Shift your focus.

People make this mistake all the time and it can hold you back from so much. Instead of focusing on what you DON’T want focus on what you DO want out of the situation. We will do far more to avoid pain than we will do to gain pleasure and those are our two biggest motivators in life. Pain and pleasure. It’s that simple. So instead of focusing on what you don’t want (everything that scares the crap out of you – pain) focus on what you DO want (the good stuff – pleasure) This will shift your energy and propel you forward.

Create affirmations to rewire your brain.

Write down an inspiring affirmation regarding what you are afraid of , change it around to make it empowering and repeat it to yourself every day.   But do’t just stand there and say it.  You have to put some emotion behind it to make it a reality.

When you tried to take your first step you fell down. Don’t lie. We know you did. But you didn’t stop, even though it was probably scary and hurt like hell… You tried again, and again and again until you got used to it and then eventfully you began to walk. And now you walk every single day and have for as long as you can remember without even thinking of it.  So the more you practice things that scare you, the better you become at it and then you won’t even think of it anymore.

Do something that scares you every day.

Have a great week and see you soon!
