We all go through it at some point, the feeling that something is missing in our lives. What you don’t want to do is spend your time brooding. What you want is to get to the bottom of the problem, deal with the underlying issues, and come back a stronger and better you. Here are a few things you can do get yourself out of that funk.
Ok, so you’re down in the dumps but just can’t figure out why. Well, you won’t figure it out till you discover what the underlying issue it. And the only way to do that is to spend time thinking about it. Is it your job? Your relationship? Your home? Your city? What is it about your life that just doesn’t feel right? You can start recording your experiences in a journal or a diary, keeping track of various aspects of your life. Don’t be afraid to dive into the details. You will be surprised by what writing things down can do for you. Try and uncover what situations or people trigger these feelings of dissatisfaction inside you. It may take a bit of time, but you will come upon a sudden insight, a flash of inspiration, a moment of clarity, and then you’ll be able to address the problem and take your life in a positive direction.
Ok, so here’s the thing. You can’t live a happy life until you know what makes you happy. Once you know this, you’ll be able to go after more of it. Something is missing. So, what? Find out what it is and go after it!
Maybe it’s your job that’s making you unhappy. Maybe it doesn’t give you enough freedom and flexibility. Maybe it’s not what you really want to be doing in the first place. That’s no reason to feel bad. In fact, that’s awesome! Look on the bright side. Now you know what the problem is. You can actually start taking steps to address it; because once you have identified the problem area, you can actually start having some fun. Get creative and figure out what you’re going to do about it. You could discuss your working hours with your boss. You could try and add some flavor to what you’re doing. Or, you could simply quit this job and get a new one, one that you like, one that excites you, one that makes you happy.
Now, its important to remember that no one’s going to be happy with their lives 100% of the time. You will occasionally become unhappy. The feeling that something’s missing from your life will come back. Don’t panic or despair when this happens. Simply repeat the formula. Identify the problem. Identify what makes you happy. Put the two together and poof! Let the magic happen.
